The World is Open Award The World is indeed getting smaller and more open-and nowhere is this exemplified better than in open-source technologies. The open-source movement brings together programmers from across the world. An increasing number of institutions, both educational and government, and companies are turning to open-software solutions and using it as a platform to build mission critical applications.
Strengthening excellence with open technologies, in India: A lot of efforts are being made towards making delivery systems work better through combination of process changes, business models and efficient use of information and communications technologies (ICT), be it the e-governance efforts at the states, centre, the mission mode projects under the national e-governance plan (NEGP) or the enterprise wide roll outs in banking, insurance, micro-credit and telecom sectors or even the inroads that ICT led education is now making into our schooling system – all these are showing a tendency to embrace open technologies. To identify, acknowledge, salute and promote best practices and wonderful solutions created by such efforts, Red Hat presented the first “The World is Open Award”. more...
